What Does THC% Mean?
THC percentage is the proportion of total THC by weight in a flower or concentrate product. A flower at 20% THC contains 200mg of THC per gram. However, percentage alone does not tell you how you will feel — delivery method, your individual body, tolerance, and terpene profile all matter. High THC% does not equal a better experience, especially for new consumers.
Dosing in Milligrams
Edibles, tinctures, capsules, and some vaporizer products list potency in milligrams of THC per serving. This is the most direct measure of how much THC you are consuming in a single dose.
A standard serving is 10mg THC — the recognised standard in most US states with adult-use cannabis. For new consumers, 2.5–5mg is a recommended starting dose.
If a product says "100mg total / 10mg per serving," that means the package contains 10 equal doses of 10mg each. If you are new to edibles, a quarter of one standard serving (2.5mg) is a reasonable place to start.
Why "Start Low, Go Slow" Is the Standard
This phrase is the harm-reduction cornerstone of responsible cannabis use globally. The reason: cannabis effects are highly variable between people, within the same person across different sessions, and across product types. There is no reliable way to predict your exact response in advance. The safest approach is always to begin at the lowest effective dose and wait the full onset time before consuming more.
Starting low costs you nothing — if the first dose is not enough, you can always consume a little more at the next session. Consuming too much, on the other hand, can mean hours of discomfort that cannot be reversed.
